Races 12a and 12b, Greg and Dianne Woodhouse Marathon Handicap/Terry Watson Memorial Teams Marathon Handicaps, Race Brief and Map

NOTE: The Teams Marathon will start at 7am, not 8am as indicated in the preview and on the entries page. Please ensure you are at the start line for your handicapped start line, allowing yourself time to collect team bibs.

This week there are two events being conducted concurrently over the same course – the “Greg & Di Woodhouse” Marathon and the “Terry Watson Memorial” Marathon Teams’ Race.

Both events will start at 7am. Competitors need to wear a race bib, which will be provided, to identify which race they are in and what team.

It is a two lap out and back course. The races start at the Ulverstone Cricket Club in River Road, West Ulverstone. The course heads east along River Road to the Ulverstone Bridge, under and across the bridge, down past the wharf precinct to Otto’s Grotto and onto Fairway Park walking track to Buttons Creek and along Beach Road to the start of the Ulverstone/Turners Beach coastal pathway where there will be a drink station. Runners follow the pathway to Turners Beach and then along The Esplanade to the turn which is beside the Forth River where there will be another drink station. This is where the second and fourth teams’ runners will commence their runs. Runners follow the exact same course back to the Ulverstone Cricket Club. This will be the halfway point for the marathon competitors and where the third leg teams’ runners will commence.

Runners, both individual and teams’ runners, are asked to provide their own drinks in clearly marked containers – either their name or race number. These can be left at the start/finish and will be transported to the drink stations.

Runners are also reminded that they should not be paced either by another runner not in the race or someone on a bike or other device. In the event of any pacing the runner or teams risk disqualification.

Post-race presentations will take place in the Ulverstone Cricket Club clubrooms. There will be soup served post-race. There are toilet and shower facilities available.

Races 11a and b Devonport, Ketelaars Male and Everyday Lions Female 5km Handicap Results

Well done to the 22 starters in the Ketelaars Male 5km Handicap and the 14 starters in the Everyday Lions Female 5km Handicap at Devonport today!

Congratulations to Brett Riley, who took out the Male race, from Patrick McMahon and Jordan Matthews.

Fastest Male was Brian Lyons in 17:05.

Congratulations to Emily Aichberger, who won the Female race, from Amy Courto and Felicity Lovatt.

Fastest Female was Sabrina Shields in 20:21.

The nominated time winner was Alicia Bramich.

Race 10 Burnie, Glow Cosmetics “Big Six” 6km Handicap Results

Well done to the 40 starters in today’s event, the Glow Cosmetics “Big Six” 6km Handicap at Burnie

Congratulations to Ross Smith, who won from Jason Scott, Steven Tammens, Felicity Lovatt and Jason Fehlberg.

Fastest man was Ross Smith (22:34) with Lyn Saint-John (25:29) fastest woman.

Nominated time winners were Mitchell Tate, Brian Paine and Tora Carpenter.

Race 10 Burnie, Glow Cosmetics “Big Six” 6km Handicaps, Race Brief, and Map

This week’s race starts at the Howe Street Netball Centre in Burnie. It is a hard 6 km but only has one hill to worry about. You will be crossing many driveways and several streets including the main entrance into the Burnie hospital, so please take care and always check carefully before crossing!  

The race starts on Howe St and turns left onto West Park Grove heading down the hill. The course enters the top gate of West Park and stays on the path down to exit the gates at the bottom.  Runners then stay on the footpath along the Bass Highway.  At Buttons Ave, cross the road and follow the footpath over the hill (DO NOT run on the road). Continue on the footpath and then turn left onto Brickport Rd. Continue up Brickport Road on the left footpath until just before the roundabout at Futuna Avenue/Uplands Place where you will cross to the right. After the roundabout, you will be crossed back to the left and follow Mooreville Rd to West Park Grove.  Run down West Park Grove and stay on the left to re-enter Howe Street and on to the finish. 

 Safety warnings: 

  • The top of the path through Burnie Park is undergoing maintenance. Please take extra care running down through this section. 
  • You must ONLY cross roads at the marked points 
  • You are responsible for your own safety. 

Races 9 a, b and c Physiotas “City of Devonport” 10km Handicap/Molly Malone’s 10km Women’s Championship/UTAS Athletic Club 10km Men’s Championship Results

Well done to the 50 starters in todays 3 events, the Molly Malones Women’s 10km Championships, UTAS Athletics Men’s 10km Championships, and Physiotas City of Devonport 10km Sealed Handicap.

Congratulations to Tony Abel, who won the handicap race from Patrick McMahon, Jason Scott, Steven Tammens, and Rhian Miles.

Hayden Bishop took out the Mens 10km Championships in a time of 34:43, from Andrew Winkel, and Liam Williams.

Lyn Saint-John finished first in the Womens 10km Championships in a time of 40:29, from Rhian Miles, and Isabelle Sharman.

Nominated time winners were Brian Paine, Sienna Bramich and Malcolm Nutting.

Remember: this is a mass start/sealed handicap event. The handicaps and handicap race placings will be revealed following the race. Race start is at 9:30am.
It incorporates the Club’s 10km championships and for which there will be medallions and prize money.
Please take care crossing streets and also on sections of the track which can be uneven. Only cross streets at the designated points.
The race commences at the parkrun start near the playground at The Bluff. Follow the path to the turn which is approximately opposite George Street. Return to The Bluff, crossing the road at the crossing point before the skate park.
Follow the path to Coles Beach, past Nixon Street, then follow the fingers and witches hats to Don College and around a loop in the Don Reserve before retracing your steps and finishing in front of the hockey centre.

Race 8 High on Penguin Burnie to Ridgley “Mountain Classic” 16.5km Handicap Results

Well done to the 38 starters in the High on Penguin Burnie to Ridgley “Mountain Classic” 16.5km Handicap this morning.

Congratulations to Ben Brockman, who won from Rhian Miles, Hayden Bishop, Dave Murton and Jason Scott.

Fastest male was Hayden Bishop (1:03:46) while fastest female was Rhian Miles (1:16:17).

Race 8 High on Penguin Burnie to Ridgley “Mountain Classic” 16.5km Handicaps, Race Brief, and Map

Please ensure you are at the start line for your posted handicap time. Race start is at 9:30am.

Please note: There is no nominated time event this week.

There will be drink stations but you need to place your own drink bottles in the collection crates at the start. Please make sure they have your name and number on them.

If you have a supporter providing you with drinks/nourishment, they must do this at the drink station. We don’t want runners or supporters crossing over the road during the race at random spots.

Please be very careful on this course because you will be running across intersections and driveways which won’t have marshals. 

The meeting place is at the cenotaph in West Park, Burnie.

Run east towards the gate and then up the path inside the park adjacent to West Park Grove. Exit the park and continue on the right -hand side of West Park Grove to Fortuna Avenue. Turn right and continue to towards the roundabout at Brickport Road. There will be a race marshall to cross you to the left-hand side of Futuna Avenue. Turn left into Mooreville Road.

Here you will be crossed over to the footpath on the right-hand side. Continue until you reach Three Mile Line Road and turn right.

Continue until you reach West Mooreville Road and turn left. Stay on this road until you reach its junction with Ridgley Highway, then go straight ahead before finally turning right to finish in the car park at the Ridgley Football Club.

Race 7 Spreyton, Spreyton Cider Co 5km Handicaps, Race Brief, and Map

The meeting place is at the Spreyton Cider Co on Melrose Road. However, the start will be in the big paddock across Sheffield Road where we have started in recent years. Please be careful crossing Sheffield Road. The course is the same as 2021.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT do your warm-up on Sheffield Road. Use the paddock or the area around the cidery.

Run straight up the paddock to Jowetts Lane and turn left. Follow the road (stay on the left) until a finger directs you left into an orchard where you will run straight ahead.

Follow the fingers and arrows which will take you through the cherry orchard, turn left and head down Pilgrims Road where you will be directed behind the apple shed. Complete the marked loop and rejoin your path out which will take you back to the start/finish.

The presentations will be at the Spreyton Cider Co.

Race 6 Fernglade, Wilkinson’s Pharmacy 6km Handicaps, Race Brief, and Map

  • Course begins on Fernglade Road outside top entrance to Pony Club.
  • Proceed down the road on the left hand side to the bottom entrance to Fernglade and turn left before the bridge into Fernglade Reserve. (marshall)
  • Continue on the road, past the picnic area and onto the track.
  • Follow track right through to the pumphouse, turn around large witches hat and proceed back up the road towards top entrance.
  • Turn left about half-way up onto the track and proceed back down to bottom gate.
  • Continue up the road on the western side (now right hand side) past starting point and up to the second turnaround (marshall)
  • Proceed back down the same side of the road to be directed into Fernpark Pony Club at the top gate. (marshall)
  • Witches hats and painted arrows will guide you on a 2km loop of the pony club to finish in front of the clubrooms.
  • Last year some runners crossed the road prematurely, meaning we were running on both sides of the road and creating a potential traffic hazard. Please stay on western side of road until final crossing at the marshal.
  • As this course is in the bush with dappled light and variable terrain, including roots and leaf litter, please avoid running with sunglasses and run with your eyes as well as your legs
