Race 3 Port Sorell, The Trend Shed 7km Handicaps, Race Brief, and Map

This course consists of a mix of road and off road track starting at the end of Port St, Port Sorell. The starting location has changed in 2022, with runners starting and finishing at the end of Port Street on the road near the boat ramp. Runners will head west along the esplanade before crossing the Panatana Rivulet via the footbridge. After crossing the rivulet, the course takes an anticlockwise loop following the trails, crossing Panatana Dr and continuing until the trail meets Milldan Rd. Here runners will head north along Milldan Rd briefly before turning right into Jefkins Dr, following this road for approx. 800 m before a turnaround and returning to Milldan Rd. The course then follows Milldan Rd north until the end of this road which leads directly onto trail. Runners will follow this trail until the footbridge to complete the loop before re-crossing the bridge and returning the start area to the finish chute.

Please do not park along the esplanade or near the start/finish chute. There is a car park at the park, as well as on street parking up Port Street.

  1. There are two road crossings at Panatana Dr and Milldan Rd. Runners are strongly reminded that they do not have right of way and that they are expected to take due care at all crossings.
  2. The off-road sections of the race are relatively easy, but there are sections of exposed tree roots and variable lighting. It is suggested that runners avoid using sunglasses out on course.
  3. When warming up and moving towards the start area, people are reminded that runners may be starting their race. Please take care to avoid interfering with runners already on course.

Race 1 Wivenhoe, Burnie SportsPower 5km Handicaps, Map, and Race Brief

Our races start at 9:30, unless otherwise advised.

The race starts on corner of Pearl and Ready St and follows Pearl St to Main Rd.  The course continues along the left side of Main Rd until River Rd where it heads south for ~200m before crossing River Rd and heading north to the Bass Highway.  Runners cross the Emu River and then turn left following Massy-Greene Dr before turning left onto the path following Fern Glade Rd.  When the path reaches the small carpark the course does a small loop to turnaround and return to the Showgrounds.  The finish chute will be inside the showgrounds in front of the main grandstand.

Safety Notes:

1. As this course is an out and back following the same path in both directions, all runners are requested to keep to the left side of the path wherever practical.  This is especially necessary on the path along Fern Glade Rd where runners will be passing each other in both directions.

2. There are two road crossings on this course in each direction.  The major crossings will be marshalled, but runners are reminded that they do not have right of way and to take due care at all crossings.

3. Along Main Rd just off Pearl St building works have encroached on the l footpath.  Runners need to take care through this short section where we will need to run on the road.

4. When warming up and moving towards the start area, people are reminded that runners may be starting their race.  Please take care to avoid interfering with runners already on course.

Race 24 Turners Beach, Rod and Judith Priestley 7km Handicaps and Race Brief

Please don’t forget to do your Tassie COVID-19 checkin.

The meeting place is at the Berry Patch at Turners Beach which will be available for coffees/ice-creams and/or brunch after the race.

The course: Starting at the Berry Patch, run towards the river, almost to the train bridge, where you cross the railway line (care needed!) and enter the bush, following the path back to the left around the marshy area.

Please note: there are some muddy puddles in this section so consider wearing old footwear if you want to plough through them rather than go around. Please take care.

When you arrive at Lukin Street, turn right and then right again, into the bush. DON’T run down the grassy lane.

Follow the arrows, witches’ hats and path out onto the end of the Esplanade. Run on the river/beach side of the Esplanade eventually turning left past where the old service station used to be. Continue to Lethborg Avenue and turn right. The turn is about 200 metres along. Return exactly the same way as you ran out, again staying on the beach/river side of the Esplanade (so we don’t have to worry about the streets).

It will be well marked with witches’ hats, arrows and fingers.

La Mar Café is closed for renos so that there will be no issue with traffic there. Just be careful with the traffic on the Esplanade.
