The PCCCT-Running Club’s premier event of the season – the Simons Carpets 17.6-kilometre Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race was run on Sunday and attracted a field of excellent quality.
The prestigious and much sought-after race looked very open on paper with many chances and this was how it turned out with less than three minutes separating the top ten finishers.

Forthside runner, Andrew Winkel starting from the third back mark, charged through the field to record a hard-fought victory.
Winkel took the lead from frontmarker, Chris Talbot with just over a kilometre to run to record his second victory for the year, with the first being the 6-kilometre event at Fernglade in April. He has also had two other victories in his ten years with the Club.
He gave himself a good chance in the race as last weekend he had run a personal best for 10-kilometres in a funrun in Melbourne so knew he was in great form.
Talbot hung on for fourth behind Josh Febey and Liam Williams, while Bryan Tuit ran a great fifth.
Thomas Murton recorded the fastest time (58:24) while fastest female was Rhian Miles (73:00).
Other awards were: first female Ellen Burgess, first novice Liam Williams, first over 50 Chris Talbot and youngest finisher Dominic Troughton.
At the post-race luncheon Club stalwarts, Greg Smith and Rick Ferguson, were presented with Life Memberships, while Brian Paine and Emma Turner received Ron Chequer Memorial Awards for volunteering.
