An excellent field of 64 runners lined up for the start of race five of the PCCCT’s season at the Romaine Park Reserve in Burnie on Sunday.
Held completely within the Reserve, the 6km race consisted of four laps providing spectators with great viewing.
It was run on gravel paths which also made a nice change, with a few small hills to keep things interesting.
Forest runner, Mathew Lardner, having his first race with the Club was a comfortable winner from Kendall Buckley and Shaun Batten.
Running around 40km per week, Lardner always trains by himself and found running in a competitive mode brought out his very best, leading to his victory.
He had only run with others previously in a couple of 10km fun runs and joined the Club to meet some like-minded individuals.
Both Buckley and Batten must surely get a win in the next month as they have been near to winning every week since race the first race.
Hayden Bishop ran well from a back mark for fifth, just behind Paul Pilkington.
Frontmarker, Dale Lancaster, led for a long way and hung on well to finish in “the ten”.
Others to catch the eye included.Selina Crispin, Steve Powell and Owen Thomas.
Fastest time for the men was recorded by Thomas Murton (19:53) with Buckley (26:02) the fastest woman.
Earlier the nominated time winners were Mitchell Elphinstone, Brian Paine and Mia Fehlberg.
